It's frustrating, but I suggest buying the extended warranty as the temp control boards tend to go bad.

This air conditioner is a life saver. It's only suitable for cooling 800 sq ft at 15000 BTU, but if you put a curtain up in doorways of rooms you don't need to cool, it makes a huge difference. It's a great value and performs really well. It's the best air conditioner I've ever purchased.
