Give it a twist and bing!

If you've got enough finger strength to turn the large dials found on 1940's TVs, you can use this guy! It makes a faint grinding noise while running, as all microwaves do. The alert sound is a real bell, small and high, run once sharply enough to hear from quite far away. I really REALLY appreciate the SINGLE bell ring, since the usual microwave in my apartment blares 4 times when done, as well as upon every button press.
Been in use for a week, and so far no unexpected operation. Our unit DID smell VERY strongly of factory air when unwrapped and opened. The unit comes with many pieces of blue and clear tape holding on film that protects the glass and other parts during shipping. Good lighting and tweezers or long finger-nails will be required to take off all of it. Perhaps tell a young kid or adult told to make a finger-football out of the tape and film, they'll have a blast!
Leaving the door open for 24 hours and wiping the inside with a standard alcohol-based kitchen wipe before use handily removed the smell. Painted tan-beige metal on the inside means the microwave's inside surface can easily be wiped clean of any spills with water and a paper towel, or a sponge and simple dish soap if the spill is not caught before it dries.
This unit IS quite small, so there's enough room for a bowl of oatmeal, or four coffee mugs arranged carefully in a circle, but definitely not room for a standard 11 inch casserole dish. So, mostly made for reheating or cooking small portion sizes, not for multi-person meal prep.
As for use, the 'heating level' knob seems to turn easily to any point along the spectrum illustrated on the side, but the knob for Time gives more resistance, and the microwave only turns on after passing the 1-minute mark. This is perfectly fine, because basically anything needing heating up, at the size this microwave can accommodate, will be done in 1 minute max. I recommend changing the temperature setting more than the timer, but of course your mileage will vary.
